Events Planned In GANGA SPINE INJURY REHABILITATION CENTRE

The Ganga Spine Injury Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC) has completed 2 years since its inception. On completion of the second anniversary since its inception and to commemorate World Spinal Cord Injury day, an annual free health check up was organized for spinal cord injury patients. The day was made special with the inauguration of a dedicated vocational training center for patients with spinal cord injury with setting up of a printing press.

The printing press would provide an opportunity for spinal cord injured victims to undergo training for operating the printing press, such that it can help them secure a source of livelihood following loss of previous vocation resulting from Spinal cord Injury.

The free health check up included the facilities of a free consultation with the rehabilitation center team. This check up offered a consultation with a spine surgeon, free annual Ultrasonography, Plastic surgeon consultation for pressure sores, assessment by the physiotherapists and clinical psychologist from the rehabilitation centre. The highlights included an interactive session with Dr K. Senthil (Consultant Urologist) for bladder and bowel care, Dr Ravindra Bharathi (Consultant plastic Surgeon) for pressure sore prevention and skin care. We had 86 SCI patients attending the annual checkup with 14 consultations for pressure sores.

Renowned Tamil poet Mr Kavidasan delivered the key note oration at the inaugural function to the delight of over 80 victims of spinal cord injury, family members, staff and doctors from GSIRC and Ganga Hospital. The vocational center was inaugurated by Mr Kavidasan and Dr J. G.
